What are the rules in TN for cremation?
my grandmother who lived with me died and left a $5,000 policy..She spelled out her wishes in her will to be cremated..When I filled out the paper work they asked for the names of all her children for the obituary..I told the funeral director then that one daughter had a huge falling out with her and hadn't been heard from in over 10 years. He said add her anyway it can't hurt...3 days later I get a call from the funeral director saying that the crematorium is refusing to cremate her unless they have ALL daughters sign and notarize a form..??? they said her will/wishes didn't matter. The funeral home Stockdale Malin has been in business for at least 20 years that i know of, possibly more..How could they not know this would happen and more importantly give me a heads up so I could fill out the paper work minus the one daughters name? They seemed like they were on my side and they tried to change the paper work, but it didn't work..I ended up having to bury my beloved grandmother in a cremation box..which is just a plywood box and I bought the standard vault or outer box to preserve her remains to maybe one day she can still be cremated.Somehow I feel like I was scammed. I was so emotional at the time, and they said if I changed funeral homes at this point I would be dealing with the same crematorium and would also have 2 bills.
