Help with career stuff please?

So, I've always wanted to be a surgeon as long as i can remember. But recently, as I've been approaching the time when I'll be applying to colleges and stuff, I've kind of been having second thoughts... I've been a traveler for my whole life, going abroad at least a couple of times a year, so I really, really want to do something that involves a lot of travel. I've been really thinking about becoming a travel journalist. You know, going places and writing about my experiences for travel guides or magazines. Is this a viable career choice? What are the chances of success? And how should i go about getting started? Please give me any help you can.
