How do I provide my professor of documentation of a family emergency?

I just had to take a few days off of school because my Uncle passed away and I wanted to see him before he went on to the other side. I notified all of my professors and all of them cleared me except for one who requested documentation. Two things come to mind for this; 1 I present a certificate of death, which will take a while to produce and is probably over doing it. 2 I give him a copy of the obituary. If there are any options that I'm not considering please let me know. I would also like to know which is best of the 2 options.
